The Jäil Anglers were convened in the Year of Our Lord 2021 upon principles which had, until that occasion, been honoured chiefly in their absence. The Triumvirate having met in plenary session, and having found one another's company tolerable, did then and there adopt a Charter, a Code of Comportment, and a Logbook, the contents of which shall not be reproduced in this place.
The Establishment does not maintain an account of its activities, save in correspondence and in the Logbook. The Membership is not photographed. The Waters are not mapped. The Trout are not weighed save in the privacy of the Register.
Such is the comportment of this House.
The Founding Triumvirate consists of the Right Honourable Warden of the Waters, the Right Honourable Steward of the Reels, and the Right Honourable Keeper of the Logbook, each of equal standing, each holding a distinct portfolio of the House. To each, in addition to the Office, a Sanctioned Nickname has been admitted by plenary act of the Triumvirate — being, respectively, Squacho, Tenzing, and Schteve — which form, though irregular in its derivation, may be employed without breach of the Code. Each is known by name to the others, and to no one else worth mentioning. The matter of their actual identities is not, and has never been, public business.
The Waters of the Club are not mapped. Their names appear in no public document, no correspondence not enclosed within a sealed envelope, and no utterance overheard by a person not a Member. The unspoken Water is the soul of the Establishment; the cartography of fishing is a matter held sub rosa, in accordance with Article the Third of the Charter.
The Treasury is administered by the Treasurer-in-Confidence, and its sums are not a matter of open discussion among the Membership, much less abroad. The Establishment does not publish accounts. Inquiries on the subject of fees, dues, or subscriptions are not entertained.
Visitors who feel themselves moved to address the Membership Committee may do so by means of the Correspondence form. The Committee meets at intervals of its own determination and is under no obligation to acknowledge receipt. Replies, in the unlikely event that any are forthcoming, will be issued in correspondence of suitable form.
